Bacteriological Profile of Healthcare Workers and Patients’ Hands at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Outreach Centres

Background: Hand hygiene is the precursor to improved health standards among healthcare workers and patients seeking outpatient services. Unhygienic hands may escalate transmission of multi-drug resistance bacteria that poses serious pathological manifestation vulnerable susceptible patients. The study aims at establishing possible pathogen susceptibility pattern Staphylococcus aureus carried on provider their patients.
 Methods: Cross sectional design random sampling convenient was out between May August 2020 Aga Khan University hospital Nairobi satellites. participant’s palm finger tips imprints were made Blood agar during sample collection. antimicrobial established using Vitek-2 automated system.
 Result: had 374 participants which 14% colonized by pathogens. overall hand carriage prevalence 6.9% (26/374) isolated from patient facility. methicillin resistant staphylococcal in this 0.56% (2/374) showing both Oxacillin Cefoxitin. Healthcare are prone colonization with pathogens as compared P-value .049. isolates all penicillin.
 Conclusion: mitigating measures facilities should be sustained counts isolated. providers point care strictly follow protocols provided WHO curb pathogenic bacteria.
